Animal Welfare

Alberta farmers know that the treatment of their sheep is of the upmost importance for achieving consistently high quality products for consumers.

While Canadian laws protect all animals from abuse and neglect, the NFACC Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Sheep was developed by farmers, veterinarians, and all stakeholders to go beyond that—to ensure Canadian livestock has the highest standard of care.

A code was developed for each type of animal so it is not a one-size-fits-all overview. Alberta's producers are committed to the health and welfare of their sheep.
